Aerobic Respiration Flashcards
What is the 2nd step to occur when O2 is present ?
The Krebs cycle
What I another name for he Krebs cycle ?
Citric acid cycle
Where does the Krebs cycle occur ?
In the mitochondrial matrix ?
Where does aerobic Respiration occur ?
In the mitochondria
What is the 1st step on the Krebs cycle ?
Pyruvic acids enters the mitochondria and is converted to Citrix acid
What is the 2nd step on the Krebs cycle
Energy molecules ( NADH and FADH2) are produced to carry electrons to the election transport chain
What is step 3 the Krebs cycle ?
CO2 is released as waste;breathed out when you exhale
What is step 4 in the Krebs cycle ?
2 ATPs are produced
What are products of the Krebs cycle ?
- FADH2
- 2 ATP
-NADH - CO2
What is the 3rd step in cellular respiration when O2 is present ?
The Electron Transport Chain ( ETC )
Where does ETC occur ?
In the cristae ( inner membrane of the mitochondria )
Where does the ETC occur for prokaryotic cells ?
The cell membrane
What is step 1in ETC?
NADH and FADH2 enters the cristae
What is step 2 in ETC ?
They lose their hydrogen ( H+) and electrons (e) to be shuttled through The ETC
What is step 3 in ETC ?
Electrons are accepted by oxygen and combine with H+ ,forming water that is released into the cell
What is step 4 in ETC?
H+ builds up inside the cristae and is passed through transport proteins ( ATP synthase) adding ADP and P to form ATP
What is the Net gain of ATP for the ETC cycle?
32 ATP
What are the two products of ETC
- ATP ( 32-34)
- H2O
What is the total # of ATP from 1 molecule of glucose during cellular respiration through the aerobic Respiration ?
36 ATP
