Uterus: Body Parts And Supply Flashcards
Parts
- Mesosalpinx
- Mesovarium
- Mesomatrium
- Suspensory ligament of ovary (infundlbulopelvic ligament)
Mesosalpinx
Part between uterine tube above and meso-ovarium below, suspensory ligament of ovary lateral, and ovarian ligament medial
Mesovarium
- Part between broad ligament posterior layer and ovary hilum
- Carries vessels and nerves to ovary
Mesomatrium
- Main part
- From uterine body to pelvic floor
Suspensory ligament of ovary
- Part extending from
uterine tube infundibulum to lateral pelvic wall - Transmits ovarian vessels and nerves
Blood supply
- Uterine artery
- Uterine vein
Uterine artery origin
Anterior division of internal iliac artery
Uterine artery course
- Runs medial in broad ligament root on pelvic floor
- Crosses above and at right angle to ureter 1 inch lateral to cervix
- It reaches cervix at internal os level where it gives off descending branch to cervix and anastomoses with vaginal artery branches
- It turns upwards along uterus lateral margin in broad ligament medial part in highly tortuous manner (to allow stretching as uterus grows in pregnancy)
Uterine artery end
Near ovarian hilum by anastomosing with ovarian artery
Uterine artery branches
- Uterus
- Uterine tube (medial 4/5)
- Cervix
- Vagina
Uterine vein
- Accompanies artery
- Drains in internal iliac vein
- It anastomoses with vaginal and ovarian venous plexuses
Nerve supply
Inferior hypogastric plexus
Lymph drainage
- From cervix
- From body upper part
- From body lower part
Lymph drainage from cervix
Lymph vessels pass:
1. Lateral: to external iliac nodes
2. Posterolateral: to internal iliac nodes
3. Posterior: to rectal and sacral nodes
4. Some vessels: to Obturator and gluteal nodes
Lymph drainage from body upper part
- To aortic nodes
- Few to external iliac nodes
- Part near uterine cornu to superficial inguinal nodes
