Penis Flashcards
Parts
- Root
- Body
- Glans penis
Root
Lies in perineum and consists of 3 structures:
1. 2 Crura
2. Bulb
Crura
- Posterior ends of the 2 corpora cavernosa of penis body 2. Attached to pubic arches and each covered by ischiocavernosus muscle
Bulb
- Posterior end of corpus spongiosum of penis body
- Attached to perineal membrane
- Covered by bulbospongisosus muscle
- It is pierced by
spongy urethra and bulbo-urethral glands ducts which open in spongy urethra
Body
Free anterior part consisting
of 3 erectile tissue:
1. 2 corpora cavernosa: on dorsal aspect
2. 1 corpus spongiosum: on ventral aspect of corpora cavernosa and contains spongy urethra
Glans penis
- Distal enlarged end of corpus spongiosum
- Covered by thin skin (prepuce) which is removed in circumcision and connected to external urethral meatus by median fold (frenulum)
Ligaments
- Fundiform ligament (sling-like)
- Suspensory ligament of penis
Fundiform ligament
Arises from lines alba inferior part and splits into 2 parts passing on each side of penis
Suspensory ligament of penis
- Fibroelastic structure which spreads out from symphysis pubis anterior surface
- Fuses with deep fascia on penis dorsum and sides
Arterial supply
Branches from internal pudendal artery:
1. 2 deep arteries
2. 2 arteries of bulb
3. Dorsal arteries
2 deep arteries
- Each runs inside corpus cavernosum supplying it
- Each breaks into small tortuous helecine arteries supplying blood during erection
2 arteries of bulb
Each runs inside penis bulb then in corpus spongiosum alongside urethra
Dorsal arteries
- Each runs lateral to deep dorsal veins of penis
- Supplies penis skin and fascia
Venous drainage
- Superficial dorsal vein
- Deep dorsal vein
Superficial dorsal vein
- Runs superficial to penis fascia in median plane of penis dorsum
- It drains into great saphenous vein
