Pudendal Nerve Flashcards
1
Q
Origin
A
In pelvis as one of 2 terminal branches of sacral plexus (S2, 3, 4)
2
Q
Course
A
- Leaves pelvis through greater sciatic foramen below piriformis
- Crosses sacrospinous ligament back to enter lesser sciatic foramen
- Enters pudendal canal in ischiorectal fossa lateral wall accompanied by internal pudendal vessels
3
Q
End
A
Once it enters pudendal canal it gives inferior rectal nerve then divides into 2 terminal branches: 1. Perineal nerve
2. Dorsal nerve of penis (clitoris)
4
Q
Branches
A
- Inferior rectal nerve
- Perineal nerve
- Dorsal nerve of penis (clitoris)
5
Q
Inferior rectal nerve
A
- Pierces pudendal canal medial wall
- Then crosses ischio-rectal fossa from lateral to medial
- Supplying external anal sphincter, levator ani inferior surface, and skin around anus
6
Q
Perineal nerve
A
- One of pudendal nerve 2 terminal branches
- It gives:
- Posterior scrotal (labial) branches near pudendal canal anterior end
- Muscular branches supplying superficial and deep perineal muscles
7
Q
Dorsal nerve of penis
A
- It runs forwards in pudendal canal
- At canal anterior end, it enters deep perineal pouch where it pierces perineal membrane to reach superficial perineal pouch
- Runs along penis dorsum with dorsal artery of penis
