Posterior Division Of Internal Iliac Artery Flashcards
1
Q
Posterior division
A
All are parietal
2
Q
Branches
A
- Iliolumbar artery
- Two lateral sacral arteries (superior and inferior)
- Superior gluteal artery
3
Q
Iliolumbar artery course
A
Passes lateral in front of sacroiliac joint deep to psoas major
4
Q
Branches of iliolumbar artery
A
- Iliac branch
- Lumbar branch
5
Q
Iliac branch
A
- Supplies iliacus
- Shares in anastomosis around ASIS
- Anastomoses with iliac branch of Obturator artery
6
Q
Lumbar branch
A
- Supplies psoas major and quadratus lumborum
- Anastomoses with 4th lumbar artery
- Supplies cauda equina
7
Q
Sacral arteries
A
- Each divides into 2 branches resulting in 4 arteries
- Enter anterior sacral foramina to supply sacral canal contents
- Emerge via posterior sacral foramina to supply overlying muscles and skin
8
Q
Superior gluteal artery
A
- Largest branch of internal iliac artery and continuation of posterior division
- Passes through greater sciatic foramen above piriformis
- Enter gluteal region where it divides into superficial and deep branches
