Q

What is “El Cadejo about”

A

“El Cadejo” is a Central American legend that features a doglike creature, called a cadejo, that God created to protect men late at night. There are different versions of the folk tale throughout Central America, but in El Salvador, legend has it that the cadejo was meant to cause fear in man but also protect him. The cadejo had white fur and terrifying red eyes. Because God had created the white cadejo to do good, the devil responded by creating a black cadejo, meant to fight the good cadejo and cause harm. The legend of the black-and-white Cadejos is another way to represent the classic struggle between good and evil.
