Palpation - firm, fluid, painful, can reduce, how big hole?
Ultrasound
What are some disease of the umbilicus?
Umbilical Hernia
Omphalitis - omphaloarterieis, omphalophelbitis, urachal remnant infection
Abscess - internal or external
Richters Herina (luminal organ out- nonreducible)
Omphalocele - organs out/intestines
How do you repair a simple hernia?
Belly band and time
-mess than 2-3 fingers
How do you surgically fix a hernia?
Fast 12-24hr
Sedate - Ketamine, Xylazine, MBK
Local Anesthesia
Dorsal Recumbency
Elliptical or half moon incision
Dissect through SQ around it down to the rectus abdominus and hernia sac
Enter cranial or caudal to mass
Dissect around hernia mass, remove sac and freshen edges
Close body wall
Close sub q
close skin
