What are some rules that help you purchase healthy pigs?
-Purchase from a known source
-Test to make sure immune matches your system

What should you talk about during a vet to vet talk?
-confirm no recent disease
-confirm tested diseases
-Determine vaccination program
-Determine antimicrobials being used in feed or water
What are some ways that diseases can be spread to swine?
Direct contact, rodents, birds, fomites like people, clothes, shoes and hands, air, water, food, environment
What should the new quarantine area include?
No contact with resident pig and new addition, water and feed separate, clean surfaces, no organic material transmission, foot bath and hand wash, change boots and coeveralls
When should you work with the new pigs?
Last
How long should the quarantine period be?
2week to 30 days
How long should the acclimation period be?
15 - 30 days
What can you do while quarantineing?
-accustom to new environment
-monitor disease
-antibiotic to prevent 2nd infection
-test for disease

PED, PRSS, Corona, Influenza

Away resident
