Pregnant women, adolescents, light smokers.
Nicotine Patch (Nicoderm CQ). If >10 cigs per day its 21 mg, If <10 mg per day its 14 mg patch. Nicotine Polacrilex gum(Nicorette) or lozenge(Nicorette or Nicorette mini). 1st cig >30 minutes after waking up use 2 mg gum, <30 minutes use 4 mg. 9 pieces per day min for 1st 6 weeks.
Avoid in Post- MI, arrhythmias, angina, pregnancy. Inhaler/nasal spray can be bronchospastic. Patch with vivid dreams, Inhaler with mouth and throat irritation, nasal spray nasal irritation. FDA prohibits sale <18 years of age, identification required. Combination therapy is the most effective. Patch must be removed before an MRI. Gum and Lozenge(4 mg) have been shown to delay weight gain.

Zyban, Start at least 1 week before quit date, Max dose 300mg/day. BBW is risk of suicidal thinking and behavior is increased in young people taking antidepressants. CI’d in seizure, anorexia/bulimia, within 14 days of an MAOI, linezolid or methylene blue. Serious neuropsychiatric events, dry mouth, insomnia, do note use with other forms of bupropion. Blocks reuptake of dopamine and/or norepinephrine.
Start 1 week before quit date. Serious neuropsychiatric events, seizure, nausea, insomnia, headache.
20 minutes of continuous puffing.
