Mechanism of Action:
Na+ channel blocker ⇒ Stabilizes the neuronal membrane by inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of pain impulses, thus causing local anesthetic action

- Onset of Action = 30 seconds
- Peak Effects = 30 seconds
- Duration of Effect = 10-15 minutes

Indications & Contraindications
Indications/Field Use:
• Pain control for burns to eyes
• Facilitate insertion of Morgan Lens
Contraindications:
• Hypersensitivity to tetracaine/novocaine

Side Effects/Adverse Reactions:
Stinging, redness
ocular irritation, delayed ocular wound healing

Adult & Pedi Dose:
(ADULT): 1-2 drops 0.5% solution q5-10min; max dose 6 drops/eye

Precautions:
Caution with patients with hyperthyroid
Avoid prolonged use
