Mechanism of Action:
COX inhibitor ⇒elevation of pain threshold, antipyretic by action on hypothalamic heat regulatory center
ACETAMINOPHEN (Tylenol®)
Pharmacokinetics
- Onset of Action = 15-30 minutes
- Peak Effects = 30-120 minutes
- Duration of Effect = 3-4 hours
- Half-Life = 1-3 hours

Indications & Contraindications
Indications/Field Use:
• Fever
• Mild-Moderate Pain
Contraindications:
• Hypersensitivity
• Patient with liver disease

Side Effects/Adverse Reactions:
Dizziness, N+V
abdominal pain, hypoglycemia
ACETAMINOPHEN (Tylenol®)
Adult & Pedi Dose:
(ADULT): 325-650mg PO q4-6h PRN, max dose 4g/day
(PEDI): 15mg/kg PO q4-6h PRN, max dose 4g/day
ACETAMINOPHEN (Tylenol®)
Precautions:
Metabolized by liver – overdose can be toxic
Does not have anti-platelet aggregation effect
Does not have peripheral anti-inflammatory effect

Drug-Drug Interactions:
Chronic excessive use of alcohol increases risk of hepatotoxicity
