μ opiate R-agonist ⇒ analgesia

Pharmacokinetics
- Onset of Action = Immediate
- Peak Effects = 3-5 minutes IV
- Duration of Effect = 30-60 minutes
- Half-Life = 6-8 hours

Indications & Contraindications
Indications/Field Use:
• Severe pain / Maintenance of analgesia
• Adjunct for RSI
Contraindications:
• Severe hemorrhage, shock
• Known hypersensitivity

Side Effects/Adverse Reactions:
Bradycardia, respiratory depression, apnea, chest wall rigidity

Adult & Pedi Dose:
(ADULT): 1μg/kg slow IV, IO, max single dose 100μg, repeat after 10 min
(PEDI): 1-2μg/kg slow IV, IO

Precautions:
Caution Pt with kidney and liver dysfunction
Halve the dose for elderly patients > 65yrs, repeat after 5 min

Drug-Drug Interactions:
Additive effects w/ CNS depressants
not for Pt who used MAOI w/in 14 days
