Mechanism of Action:
• α and β agonist, (slightly β2 selective) ⇒bronchodilation, decreased mucous membrane secretions, relieves subglottic edema

Pharmacokinetics
- Onset of Action < 5 minutes inhaled
- Peak Effects = 5-15 min
- Duration of Effect = 1-3 hours
- Half-Life = N/A

Indications & Contraindications
Indications/Field Use:
• Croup (Laryngotracheobronchitis)
Contraindications:
Hypertension, tachydysrhythmias, epiglottitis

Side Effects/Adverse Reactions:
Restlessness, anxiety
dizziness, headache,N+V
hypertension, tachycardia
paradoxical bronchospasm
RACEMIC EPINEPHRINE (Vaponephrine®)
Pedi Dose:
(PEDI) 5mg 1:1000 Epi in 2.5-3.0mL NS, nebulized with oxygen
– or –
0.25-0.75 of 2.25% solution in 2mL NS nebulized with oxygen

Precautions:
rebound or worsened effects when med wears off

Drug-Drug Interactions:
additive effects with other sympathomimetics
