Test 2: lecture 33 cases Flashcards
list abnormalities
Exophthalmos
* Globe deviation
* Third eyelid protrusion
* Conjunctival hyperemia
* Periorbital and facial swelling
* Opaque ocular surface
* Mucoid, crusted discharge
PRL direct negative on right eye
why?
afferent problem- glaucoma caused damage to optic nerve
retina working but pupil not moving
iris stuck to cornea- chronic uvelitis
PRL indirect
-OS to OD
-OD to OS
PRL direct
-OD
normal OS
what does that mean?
left normal direct= left iris and retina working (afferent and efferent normal)
if retinal problem light into right eye will cause no left eye indirect PLR
if iris problem, light into right eye will cause normal left eye direct PRL
this dog has problem with retina in right eye- afferent pathway not working
generate problem list
- Decreased energy level
- Enlarged lymph node
- Pain
OD
* Blind
* Exophthalmic
* Incomplete eyelid closure
* Lateral deviation of globe
* Orbital, periocular swelling
Additional diagnostics:
* CBC/Serum Chemistry/U/A
* FNA lymph node
* Skull radiographs, advanced imaging (CT, MRI)
what can cause swelling behind the eye
neoplasia- lymphoma
inflammatory
infectious
immune mediated
how to confirm space occupying mass
FNA
blood work
biopsy
advanced imaging: MRI
enucleation vs exenteration
enucleation- just the eye
exenteration- eye and all the soft tissue inside the orbit
no menace but normal dazzle, PRL direct and indirect
blind but retina and iris working normal
cataract- DM cause lens induced uveitis and aqueous flare
