Q

the platelet fibrin matrix formed by endocarditis will cause —

A

can break off and embolize in the kidney, spleen, brain and bowel

cause sepsis, and organ failure

can also degrade the collagen in the valve and lead to severe valvular insufficiency →CHF

9
Q

what kind of murmur and pulses for endocarditis

A

left basilar diastolic murmur
usually effect mitral and aortic valves → aortic valve closed during diastole

bounding femoral pulse: leak in valve causes lower diastolic pressure, difference between systolic and diastolic is greater= louder/bounding

Q

what kind of drugs to treat endocarditis

A

bactericidal
IV
four quadrant coverage: gram +, -, anaerobic, aerobic

need to treat for months, and treat HF symptoms
