TB 93 THERMO-GEL FIRE BLOCKING GEL Flashcards

Q

TB 93 THERMO-GEL FIRE BLOCKING GEL

A mixture of Thermo-Gel and water produces a unique fire blocking gel. The gel, when applied to the exterior surface of combustible materials, provides an insulating zone between the heat of a fire and the protected surface.

Direct fire attack should not be made with Thermo-Gel.

Start with the roof and then coat the vertical surfaces.

Coat the object until white (coating should be applied to a 1⁄4” thickness)

Q

TB 93 THERMO-GEL FIRE BLOCKING GEL

Tests have demonstrated that air bubbles burst when exposed to temperatures in the range of 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Foam blankets break down 15 to 30 minutes following application. Thermo-Gel produces a bubble of water surrounded by a polymer shell.

Q

TB 93 THERMO-GEL FIRE BLOCKING GEL

Companies shall carry one case of 4 one-gallon containers of Thermo-Gel on the apparatus. When the probability of brush fires increases (i.e., extreme or red flag rating) companies shall carry two additional cases of Thermo-Gel on the apparatus (bringing the total product carried to 3 cases or 12 - 1-Gallon containers).

Keep containers on their side while on the apparatus and in the fire station when possible. This will keep the product from settling on the bottom of the container.
