Type I has a screen plate perpendicular to the screen and requires an upward motion (pry action) by a straight object to disengage the locking mechanism which has the nameplate riveted onto the screen.

Type II has a screen plate which is parallel to the screen and requires a horizontal straight push in motion (poke action) to disengage the locking mechanism, the nameplate is stenciled onto the screen.

Type 1 - enter straight object, like screwdriver, 1/3 from bottom of the screen. Use upward motion of handle to cause tip to go down and open drain.

Type 2 - enter straight object, like screwdriver, 1/3 from bottom of the screen. Push straight in to open.
