Open the cylinder valve slowly a fraction of a turn.

Watch the cylinder contents gauge pointer; when it stops moving, open the cylinder valve further:

a) Open ACETYLENE cylinder valve 1 1/2 turns, no more.
b) Open OXYGEN cylinder valve fully.
