TB 169 Hot Stick USA AC Flashcards
TB 169 Hot Stick USA AC
The special amplifier is capable of receiving AC signals over a wide amplitude range. This includes low voltage such as ___ volts AC up to and including high voltage.

The detector is not designed to identify Direct Current (DC) voltages. This includes low DC voltage from a car battery and high DC voltage from a third rail or overhead catenary line in a light rail transit system.

The Hot Stick USA AC is manufactured by Delsar.
It is made of high strength plastic and is 20 1⁄2” in length and 1 3⁄4” in diameter. It is splash water proof, designed to be intrinsically safe, and powered by four ____ AA alkaline batteries.

The Hot Stick has four (4) operational settings: Off, High, Low, and Front focused.
The HIGH setting increases the sensitivity and will alert the user sooner of the presence of an electrical hazard. As the voltage levels increase the device will begin alerting sooner as well.
While utilizing the Front focused setting, the device narrows the receiving area to the front focal area allowing to pinpoint the source.

Turn the operating switch to the HIGH setting. Listen for a series of rapid beeps and LED flash lasting approximately ____ seconds indicating the Hot Stick is ready for use.
The Hot Stick requires no warm up and is ready for use in ____ seconds after turning it on.

The Hot Stick consists of a high sensitivity AC amplifier for the frequency range of ___ to ___ Hz.

The LOW setting can be utilized when working around other high voltage sources such as high voltage overhead power lines. This will help to better identify energized wires on or closer to the ground without alerting members to overhead power lines.

Electrostatic Voltage. This is caused by friction and is not a true reading of AC voltage. However, the Hot Stick will alarm in the presence of electrostatic voltage. An example would be dragging your feet across the ground while holding the Hot Stick.

The red striped area of the Hot Stick indicates the sensing section of the tool. The distance from a potential source at which the tool will begin to alert depends on several factors:
The setting mode of the switch
The magnitude of the AC voltage
The distance of the source
Possible shielding of potential sources
The size of the area where the AC voltage appears to be coming from, i.e., Wire(s) making contact with a metal building versus wire(s) making contact with a vehicle will provide different readings due to surface area that is energized.
