Q

TB 111 ELEVATOR DOOR RESCUE PADDLE

Rarely, the doors will not open immediately. This occurs if undue pressure has been placed on the hoistway door latch, causing it to bind. The center door opening clearance may be too tight or the tool was inserted too high in the door opening. Continue to apply pressure with the Paddle. If the Paddle is too high, reposition the tool to a lower location in the opening and try again.

If this problem persists, a second rescuer should place the flat palms of both hands, very near the top of each hoistway door segment. While pressing inward against the doors, the rescuer should quickly and sharply push their hands toward the center door opening. This should alleviate the bind momentarily, causing the door to open.
