Study Guide on Notes (learning styles, PT Hx and R&S) Flashcards
Do people have a combination of learning styles?
Yes
What are the learning styles?
Visual, auditory, verbal, and kinesthetic
These learners receive information the best when presented with: colors, written outlines, visual aids, charts, maps, pictures, videos, mnemonics, flashcards
Visual Learner
These learners receive information the best when presented with: lectures, audio/video, discussions, computer tutorials, studying to music, recording of lecture, mnemonics, flashcards
Auditory Learner
These learners receive information the best when presented with: flashcards spoken out loud, speaking out loud from memory or text, reciting new information or concepts, mnemonics, writing, reciting, discussions.
Verbal Learner
These learners receive information the best when presented with: stuff to touch and feel, (often use visual, verbal, and auditory at the same time), demonstrations, simulations, practicing, models, physical demonstration, flashcards, activities in a textbook, study group. Visualization is a good alternative.
Kinesthetic Learner
Could help along with sensory preferences. Do you like studying alone or in a group? (what’s the concept)
Social Inclination
What is the enhanced action of two or more agents working together cooperatively? (better than working alone?)
Synergy

Setting a leader, reading before the meeting, staying on task, setting time limits, contribution from all in the group
These learners can benefit from a group on discussion boards, social media, and online collaborations
Solitary Learners
Big picture first, then details (may skip details, likely flexible and multitasker)
Global or holistic learners
Need to see parts before comprehending big picture (identifying patterns and group data, makes lists, sometimes gets stuck analyzing details, maybe perfectionist. Prioritize the topics)
Analytical/Logical learner
How do you create more pathways to the brain and make information easier to remember?
Use multiple learning styles
The process by which people store, retain, and retrieve information
Memory (we need to put stuff into long term)
How to get memories into long term storage?
Chunking (like phone numbers, chunk things in a group), memorize intermittently to solidify, DO NOT cram, sufficient quantity and quality of sleep, repetition, mnemonics
What is the vision of Physical Therapy?
Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience
Who is treated in PT?
People of all ages, ethnicities, genders, anybody with anything that hinders ADL or movement
