Spins Flashcards
What is the height loss for a full turn in the spin?
400ft
What are the indications for a spin?
Visual
- Very nose low, high rate of turn
HUD
- High AoA
- CDM cages, PRS visible
- IAS between 80 - 150KIAS
PFD
- Amber spin arrow
- High RoD (10,000+ft/min)
- Rapidly rotating HSI
- Stall buffet/warning
What is the fuel balance limits for a spin?
55lbs (no fuel imbalance caution)
What is included in the spin brief?
- Type of spin and direction
- Recovery timing (turns or alt)
- Last recovery altitude AMSL
Before entering a spin what must be completed?
- HASSEL checks
- Spin brief
- Wingover
Example ICP spin brief:
This will be an incipient spin to the left, I will initiate recovery by either 6500ft or before one autorotation, to be fully recovered by 3500ft. If the aircraft is still rotating past 3500ft, I will abandon.
Explain the sequence of actions leading up to the spin?
- Check PWR, Attitude, speed, D-link
- HASSEL Checks
- Spin brief
- Wing over
- Trims neutral by 120KIAS
When you hear the stall warning tone, what are your actions?
Apply full pro-spin controls:
- Move control column centrally aft
- Apply full left rudder
As the aircraft rolls inverted, what are your actions?
“Clear below”
You have just cleared below for an ICP spin, what are your recovery actions?
- Check height
- PCL IDLE
- Centralise controls
When spin stops:
- Wings level
- Nose low UA (raise to T/O attitude)
Example FD spin brief:
This will be a fully developed spin to the left, I will initiate recovery by either 6500ft or after 3 turns, to be fully recovered by 3500ft. If the aircraft is still rotating past 3500ft, I will abandon.
How does the fully developed spin differ from that of the incipient?
- Turns are counted with a large visual reference
- Full pro spin controls are held for longer
- Count each turn and verbalise the altitude
- Verbalise “recovering now”
What is the maximum number of spins?
6
When should you recover for a fully developed spin?
- IAW the spin brief
- If the QFI says so
What is the fully developed spin recovery?
- Check height, “recovering now”
- PCL to IDLE
- Check spin arrow on PFD
- Simultaneously
- Apply full opposite rudder
- Visually centralise control column
