IF Basic Pt. 2 Flashcards
What NAVAIDS are required to align to a TACAN radial?
TACAN is set on PFD and CRS bar is correctly set
What is the R/T for 10 mile finals Sale Centre on the RTB like if IFR?
Sale Cen, ROLR XX, Echo, XXXXft, Received X, request vectors for 10 mil final, RWY 09
- ROLR XX, Sale Cen, turn R/L, HDG XXX, descend to XXXX”
What is the work cycle when being vectored IFR?
- Bug, Alt, turn, talk
Once you have received your centre call, what should you immediately do?
- Set the HDG Bug
- Set the ALT Sel
- Now you can read back the R/T
What does the brief for RTB sound like for a vectored approach?
I am receiving vectored for a 10mile finals for RWY09, once visual I will cancel IFR, with 5 miles to run I will slow and configure and intercept at about 8 miles, 2500ft for finals
How do you cancel IFR when visual?
ROLR XX, Visual, Cancel IFR
What is the sequencing of a 10NM straight in approach once visual?
- Set IDLE and configure when 5Nm ring hits extended C-line
- Roll onto C-line
- Contact TWR at 10NM,
- When the GRB hits the PAPI lights, point, PWR Flap (approx 8TAC)
- @5NM, “ROLR XX, 5 Miles, 3 greens, T/G
- Maintain min speed 120KIAS until later in finals
- Complete finals Cx once past 5 miles
Before intercepting a TACAN radial, what admin is required?
- TACAN should be the top NAVAID set on the LHS of the PFD
- HSI map range should be increased until the TACAN is visible
- Ensure that the correct CRS (radial) is displayed on the PFD
What does HOP out, Slide in mean regarding a TACAN?
Use the solid line when heading too the TACAN, and the dotted line when heading away from the TACAN
What tools can be used to assist with timing the line up with the TACAN radial?
The markers at the bottom of the PFD (outer dots = 10NM and inner =5Nm)
What is the difference between a radar and procedural SID?
A procedural SID will have assigned headings and alts as part of the coded clearance and you will not receive a HDG on line up
What is the EMRG brief for an IFR departure?
- “Any malfunction brakes release to rotate I will abort the T/O, after rotate to the 10 Mile safe alt of 1900, for engine failure or major loss of PWR I will eject, for any other malfunction I will continue my climb to the MSA and request vectors for an instrument approach”
When you check your compasses on line up, what is the required accuracy?
Should match RWY heading within 2º
What is the R/T to confirm that the SID is complete?
ROLR XX, SID complete
You are under vectors and have just called visual and ATC has responded with “ROLR XX, cancel IFR fly VFR”, what does this mean?
Effectively this means that you are no longer IFR but ATC needs you to remain under their control and comply with their vectors, however you are now responsible for terrain clearance, separation from their aircraft and you cannot fly into cloud. You are not cleared visual approach, long story short this isn’ good, don’t call visual until you are completely ready and going into cloud is not a threat.
