Climb (Vy, Vx and Standard) Flashcards
What are your considerations prior to climbing?
- ATC Clearance
- Planned level off alt
- Remain within CTA/OCTA as required
- Comply with ATC instructions/departure procedures
What is the standard climb entry attitude?
Horizon on top of the compass, bottom of the left mirror
Explain the sequence of power and attitude changes in the climb up to levelling off
Simultaneously apply:
1. Max PWR
2. Climb attitude
3. Check PWR
ALAP
4. Reduce pitch for 180KIAS
ALAP
5. At 300ft pitch to set horizon below the AoA indexer
6. Trim to maintain attitude
In the climb, ALAP scans which instruments?
ALA…. IAS
ALA…. HDG Bug
ALA…. Altitude
What are the normal, Vx and Vy climb speeds?
Vx = 130KIAS
Vy = 190KIAS@ Sea level (take 10KTS every 5000ft alt gained)
The QFI has just handed over the aircraft for you to demonstrate a climb, what are your actions before entering the climb?
Aviate the aircraft
1. Confirm correct power (53% for S&L)
2. ALAP cycle
4. Trim for hands off
5. Lookout
6. Simultaneously apply max PWR and set the climb attitude
As airspeed decreases in a climb, what effect will this have on the aircraft and what trim is required?
The nose will want to drop requiring the pilot to input nose up trim
