Q

What is the standard hold? (Time, turn direction, max speed, AoB)

A
  • 1 minute legs (1.5 if above FL140)
  • Race track pattern to the right unless specified
  • Take approx 4 mins (turn 180 = 1 min)
  • Max speed = 230KTS
  • Rate 1 turn = 20Aob below 160KTS
  • Fly a ground track, 10 kts of headwind, add 10 seconds to that leg, inverse if tail wind

Q

Using Ground speed, what is the math to calculate the RoD for a 3º approach?

A

Divide the first two numbers of your GS by 2

E.g. 140KTS = 14/2 = 700fpm, 200KTS = 20/2 = 1000fpm
