socio-ecological model
the modal shows that determinants of physical and mental health can be categorised across various levels. It also shows,
-macrosocial factors such as public policy, the physical environment, one’s community
-the interpersonal networks -social support is found to be a factor positively associated with good mental health
-individual factors such as genetics, individual psychology and lifestyle- influence mental health
Organisational level
concerns factors associated with workplaces or academic institutions. Examples of factors that protect workers wellbeing: adhering to living wage, holiday/time off allocation , autonomy and appropriate resources for tasks
Community level
social capital(value derived from positive connections between people), this can impact people’s sense of belonging to their community cohesion ,reciprocity and trust and positive attitudes to community institutions which include participation in community activities.
Strong social capital
nurtures traits that positive psychology scholars highlight key for good mental wellbeing such as feeling appreciated and valued and having a sense of belonging this could result to good well-being
Adverse childhood experiences(ACES)
Example of adverse childhood experiences- experiencing violence, abuse or neglect, witnessing violence at home(or in the community), having a family member attempt or die by suicide

undermine sense of safety, stability +bonding such as growing up in a household with:
-substance use problems
-mental health problems
-instability due to parental separation or household members being in jail or prison

health-risk behaviours such as unhealthy diet, smoking, drug use or unprotected sexual activity.
