development of the nervous system Flashcards
Gastrulation
what are the 3 layers in gestation?
1.Endoderm
2.Mesoderm
3.Ectoderm
what day does gastrulation being
12 or 13
the layers form the whole body of the embryo.
Neurulation
describes the folding of the ectodermal layer to form the neural tube, which forms the central nervous system and the neural crest, which forms components of the peripheral nervous system (Schwann cells and sensory fibres), meninges and features of the face.
what day is the nerural tube closure?
day 28
in neuralation where does closure start?
middle of the tube and works outwards to the ends of the tube
in neuralation when does the caudal (tail) end of the tube closes by
day 24
in nerualation when does the rostral (nose) end closes by?
day 28
what happens in nerualitsation if the tube fails to close?
there will be neural tube defects
what do neruoblasts and glioblast originate from?
neural tube
why do neuroblast and giloblast differentiate from?
form neurons and glia of the CNS.
Ependymal cells
different as they originate along the inner rim of the neural tube, next to the canal
what do the outer regions of the neural tube form?
outer regions of the neural tube
what is the neuro crest responsible for?
projections that become the autonomic nervous system and for the Schwann cells that provide the myelin in the peripheral nervous system
meninges are also formed from neural crest cells.
what are vesicles ?
where the neural tube has closed the long cylinder begins to develop swellings in a number of regions of the tube
