primary, secondary morphology of varicella zoster. complications of this disease?

A

chicken pox is acute viral illness secondary to exposure to HSV3

  • symptoms: fever, malaise, myalgia and eruption or erythemetous papules
    primary: vesicle, pustule
    2nd: crust, erosion (partially due to tiching)
    complications: remains dormant in nerve ganglia and can arise as shingles

  • reactivation of dormant varicella from a nerve ending, affects a dermatome
  • pain common
  • morphology: clustered vesicles (herpetiform) that follow the dermatomes.
  • management: early treatment with antivirals

definition: HSV (could be genital (type 2) or oral type 1)
primary: grouped vesicles with underlying erythema

secodnary morphology: crusts, erosions

management: they usually flare up and then go away, but PO anti0virals also work (vancyclovir)
