erythematous papules coalescing into large plaques. possibly edematous. well defined borders. this is a MORBILIFORM eruption, considered a maculopapular drug eruption
when are you most likely to see a maculopapular drug eruption
The cutaneous eruption classically begins 7 to 14 days after the start of a new medication and can even occur a few days after the drug has been discontinued. . it’s often because a cell-mediated hypersensitivity reaction, Pruritus is the major complaint from most patients

drug causes of TEN or SJS
allopurinol, NSAIDs, antibiotics, anticonvulsants.
Toxic epidermal necrolysis. covers more than 30% body surface area. optimal medical managemnet requires early disagnosis, immediate discontinuiation of causative drugs and rapid initiaition of supportice care and specific therapy.
severe forms of maculopapular drug eruptions
peripheral eosinophilia, renal or hepatix dysfunction– DRESS: drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms
what drugs cause this reaciton?
erythema nodosum; specific estrogens and oral contraceptive pills, sulfonamides, bromides, penicillin, iodides and TNF inhibitors.
