What is sex linkage
A
Where the gene is present on the X or Y chromosome.

Why may men be affected by certain conditions whereas women may not?
A
Men carry a Y chromosome that is signficantly shorter than the X chromosomes. If they carry a recessive allele on the X chromosome, that recessive will always be expressed as the chromosones are not homologous.
