Monohybrid inheritance + probability Flashcards
1
Q
What is the law of segregation?
A
In diploid organisms, characteristics are determined by alleles that occur in pairs. Only one of each pair of alleles can be present in a single gamete.
2
Q
If we want to produce an F1 generation in a monohybrid cross, what conditions do we need?
A
Organisms are pure bred
Organsims are homozygous recessive + dominant
3
Q
How is an F2 generation made?
A
Using the heterozygous offspring of the F1 generation
4
Q
Why may actual results of genetic crosses differ from predicted results?
A
Fusion of gametes are independant events
Genotype of offspring is due to chance, cannot be truly calculated.
