Feedback mechanisms Flashcards
What is negative feedback?
When the stimulus causes the corrective measures to be turned off, returning the system to its optimal level
WHat example do we look at is an example of negative feedback?
Control of blood glucose
What is negative feedback in the context of hormones?
The secretion of a hormone leads to a reduction in the secretion of that hormone
What is positive feedback?
When the feedback causes the corrective measures to remain turned on
What is positive feedback in terms of hormones?
The secretion of a hormone leads to an increase in the secretion of that hormone
What example can we look at for a use of positive feedback?
Oxytocin release causes uterus contractions, releasing more oxytocin to cause stronger contractions.
