Q

Why do singles cell organisms not have a mass transport system

A

They have a very small SA:V so O2 can be absorbed by diffusion

Q

What is the internal network in insects for gaseous exchange called

A

Tracheae
These divide into tracheoles

Q

3 ways respiratory gases move in and out of the tracheal system

A

Along diffusion gradient

Mass transport - Contraction of muscles

Ends of tracheloes filled with water - Lactate decreases water potential, water moves from tracheoles to muscle cells, decreases pressure so gas is drawn up behind and moves down pressure gradient
