Reproductive anatomy Flashcards
Cardinal ligament
cervix to pelvic sidewall
uterine vessels
Infundibulopelvic ligament
aka suspensory ligament of ovary
ovary to pelvic sidewall
ovarian vessels
Ovarian ligament
ovary to uterus
derived from gubernaculum
Round ligament of uterus
derived from gubernaculum
uterus –> inguinal canal –> labia majorum
Broad ligament
uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries to pelvic wall
contains ovarian ligament, round ligament, IP ligaments
Pudendal N.
S2-S4
Sensation to perineum and genitals
motor to perineal ms. - base of penis (erection), external anal sphincter, external urethral sphincter
Damage: child birth, cyclists
- genital numbness and pain
- fecal/urinary incontinence
- ED
Pudendal nerve block - childbirth
-feel for ischial spine as landmark
Inferior hypogastric plexus
pelvic plexus
autonomics - parasympathetics
to prostate plexus –> cavernous nerves –> erection
-injury during prostate surgery = ED
Draw pelvic artery supply

Internal iliac a.
- Posterior division
a. iliolumbar a
b. lateral sacral a.
c. superior gluteal a. - Anterior division
a. umbilical a.
- i. a. of ductus deferens
- ii. superior vesical a.
b. obturator a.
c. uterine a.
- i. vaginal branch
d. inferior vesicle a.
e. vaginal a.
f. middle rectal a.
g. inferior gluteal a.
h. internal pudendal a.
- i. inferior rectal a. –> dorsal penile a.
Left gonad venous drainage
drains into L renal v.
-increases venous pressure - varicoceles more common on left - bag of worms scrotum
Right side directly into IVC
Draw cross section of penis

Outer dermis –>
Dartos fascia (continuous w/ collie’s fascia of perineum and scrapa’s fascia of abdominal wall) –>
Deep “Buck’s” fascia - separates corpus cavernous from corpus spongiosum
Tunica albuginea surrounds corpora cavernous and corpus spongiosum
Urethra runs through corpus spongiosum
Sertoli cells
Secrete:
anti-mullerian hormone
Inhibin - negative feedback to decrease FSH secretion
Androgen binding protein (ABP) - maintains T in tubules, mature spermatocytes
Maintain blood-testis barrier
Temperature sensitive - high temp decreases inhibin, decrease sperm production
- cryptorchydism
- varicocele
Leydig cells
secrete T
Located in interstitium
Seminiferous tubules
meiosis
mature sperm in middle
Sertoli cells - nourish spermatozoa, activated by FSH
Spermatogonia - outer, line tubules
