Antiemetic
Prochlorperazine Mechanism?
Dopamine (D2) R antagonist - inhibits communication from the chemoreceptor trigger zone (which recognizes emetic toxins) to the vomiting center (4th ventricle) of the brain; inhibits gastric SMC relaxation, leading to increased motility of stomach contents into the small intestine; also has weak anticholinergic properties

-Hypersensitivity
-CNS Depression
Prochlorperazine Side Effects/Precautions?
? Bradycardia
? Tachycardia
? Hypotension
? CNS Depression
? Sedation
? Drowsiness
? Dizziness
? Blurred Vision
? Extrapyramidal Symptoms (Akathisia, Parkinsonism, Or Dystonia)
Prochlorperazine Adult Dose?
- Nausea/Vomiting: 5-10 mg IV/IO, or 5 mg IM; may repeat once after 10 minutes if nausea/vomiting persists.
- Migrane: 10 mg IV/IO infusion over 15 minutes or 10 mg IM.
