Dopamine Classification?
Sympathomimetic / Sympathetic agonist / Catecholamine
Dopamine Mechanism?
Acts as a dopamine A1 & B1 adrenegic receptor site agonist. In a dose dependent fashion, in can increase inotropy, chornotropy, dromotropy, and peripheral vascular resistence.
Dopamine Indications?
- Cardiogenic shock
- Symptomatic bradycardia
- Septic shock following fluid resuscitation
Dopamine Contraindications?
Uncorrected hypovolemia
(If profoundly hypotensive, may give IV fluids concurrently)
Dopamine Side Effects/Precautions?
- Headache
- Nervousness
- Dyspnea
- Chest Pain
- Tachycardia
- Dysrhytmias
- N/V
- Extravasion Necrosis
Dopamine Adult Dose?
- 2-5mcg/kg/min IV/IO infusion (low dose) increases blood flow to mesenteric and renal (GUT)
- 5-10mcg/kg/min IV/IO infusion (medium dose) stimulates beta effects
- 10-20mcg/kg/min IV/IO infusion (high dose) stimulates alpha effects

Be - BETA
Accurate - ALPHA
Dopamine Pediatric Dose?
2-20 mcg/kg/min IV/IO infusion. Titrate to desired effect.
Dopamine Onset of Action?
< 5min
Dopamine Duration of Action?
< 10min
Dopamine Max Dose Adult/Pediatric?
Adult: Variable but none clearly noted for EMS application
Peds: not to exceed 50 mcg/kg/min
