Diazepam Mechanism?
Binds to specific sites on GABA Type A receptors and via an allosteric affect it hyperpolarizes to potentiate the effects for GABA resulting in sedation and suppression of convulsions.
Diazepam Indications?
-Restraint
-TBI
-Hyperthemia
-Sympathomimetic/Anticholinergic OD
-TCP/DC Cardioversion
-Organophosphate
-Anxiety
-Alcohol Withdrawl
-Seizure
Diazepam Contraindications?
-Hypersensitivity
-Respiratory Insufficiency
-Hypotension
Diazepam Side Effects/Precautions?
-Dizziness
-Drowsiness
-Confusion
-Hypotension
-Nausea/Vomiting
-Respiratory depression
Diazepam Adult Dose?
2mg - 10mg
2mg (0.1mg/kg) - Restraint, TBI, Hyperthermia, Sympathomimetic/Anticholinergic, TCP/DC
5mg (0.3mg/kg) - Organophosphate, Anxiety, Alcohol/Withdrawl
10mg (0.2mg/kg) - Seizure

1/2 of adult dose
Diazepam Onset of Action?
1-5 minutes
Diazepam Duration of Action?
20-50 minutes
Diazepam Max Dose Adult/Pediatric?
20mg and 10mg respectively but highly dependeng on indication
Diazepam Routes of Administration?
IV/IO/IM

5mg/ml vials, ampules, and prefilled syringes
