Norepinephrine Mechanism?
Binds to A1, and B1 adrenergic receptors with more profound A1 effects to cause peripheral vasoconstriction and coronary vasodilation. Primary action is with calcium channels
Norepinephrine Indications?
- Cardiogenic shock
- Septic shock following fluid resuscitation
- Neurogenic shock
Norepinephrine Contraindications?
-Hypovolemia
-Tachydysrhythmias
Norepinephrine Side Effects/Precautions?
- Tachycardia
- Hypertension
- Increased myocardial oxygen demand
- Dysrhythmia
- Headache
- Nausea/vomiting
- Syncope
Norepinephrine Adult Dose?
1 - 30 mcg/min IV/IO infusion
Norepinephrine Pediatric Dose?
0.01 - 2.0 mcg/kg/min IV/IO infusion
Norepinephrine Onset of Action?
1-3 Minutes
Norepinephrine Duration of Action?
Variable. Lasts about 1 minute after infusion stops.
Norepinephrine Max Dose Adult/Pediatric?
Adults: No located in EMS application
Peds: 1-2mcg/kg/min

IV/IO

- 4mg vials
- Mix 4mg in 250ml NS for a concentration of 16 mcg/ml
