Ketamine Mechanism?
As a non-competitive antagonist for NMDA and glutamate receptors, it blocks HCN1 channel receptors causing disassociation between cortical and limbic system.
Ketamine Indications?
-Restraint
-Excited delirium
-Induction agent for RSI
-Pain management
Ketamine Contraindications?
-Significant Hypertension
Ketamine Side Effects/Precautions?
-Hallucination
-Hypertension
-Increased skeletal muscle tone
-Increased salivation
-Nausea/Vomiting
-Tachycardia
-Palpitations
Ketamine Adult Dose?
RIPP - 4,2,1, 0.2/0.3
Restraint: 4mg/kg IM
Induction for RSI: 2 mg/kg IV/IO
Post Intubation: 1mg/kg every 5-15 min.
Pain management: 0.2mg/kg IV/IO 0.3mg/kg IM
Ketamine Pediatric Dose?
RIP - 4,2,1, 0.2/0.3
Restraint: 4mg/kg IM
Induction for RSI: 2 mg/kg IV/IO
Post Intubation: 1mg/kg every 5-15 min.
Ketamine Onset of Action?
30 seconds IV/IO; 3-4 minutes IM
Ketamine Duration of Action?
5-10 minutes IV; 15-25 minutes IM
Ketamine Max Dose Adult/Pediatric?
Restraint: 500mg single dose, 150mg addt’l in 5-10min
Pain management:
IV/IO 20mg/dose
IM: 30mg/dose
Ketamine Routes of Administration?
IM/IV/IO Depending on curcumstance
