PerDev (2nd Grading) Flashcards
Command centre of the other 8 systems in the body
Brain
3 Types of Nervous Systems
Peripheral Nervous System,
Sympathetic Nervous System,
Parasympathetic Nervous System.
Outside the brain and spinal chord, sending info from different areas of your body back to your brain.
Peripheral Nervous System
Carries messages from special receptors in the skin, muscles, and other internal/external sense organs to spinal chord
Sensory Nerves
It carries orders from the central nervous system to muscles, glands and internal organs.
Motor Nerves
Sometimes called “ skeletal nervous system, controls skeletal MUSCLES OF THE BODY and Permits voluntary action
Somatic Nervous System
These are movements or actions that are INVOLUNTARY, regulates blood vessels, glands and internal organs like bladder, stomach and pumping of the heart.
Automatic Nervous System
It acts like the accelerator of a car, mobilizing the body for action and an output of energy.
Sympathetic Nervous System
It doesn’t stop the body, but it does tend to slow things down or keep them running smoothly.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
The cell body (also called the soma)
is the spherical part of a neuron that houses the nucleus.
Dendrites
It transmits messages away from the cell body to other cells.
Axon
This part of the brain starts at the base of the skull and the brain stem.
Hindbrain
5 things that Hindbrain does
~ Survival
~ Respiratory rhythm
~ Motor activity
~ Sleep
~ Wakefulness
It is spinal cordis the topmost part of the
brainstem, the connection
central between the brain and the spinal cord.
Midbrain (Mesencephalon)
