Pelvic Anatomy 4 Flashcards
Indicate the path of urine flow from the pyramids to the exterior of the body and indicate where kidney stones commonly lodge.
1
Q
What is the path of urine flow?
A
Pyramids → Minor calyces → Major calyces → Renal pelvis → Ureters → Bladder → Urethra
2
Q
What are common sites for kidney stones?
A
- Renal pelvis
- Common iliac vessels
- Entrance to bladder
3
Q
What anchors the bladder in the female? What is the trigone? Describe the innervation.
A
- Smooth muscle sac anchored to pubic bone in the female by the tough pubovesicular ligament (puboprostatic in the male)
- The trigone is the smooth, internal triangular area between the ureters and urethra.
- Parasympathetics cause bladder contraction
- Sympathetics innervate the internal urethral sphincter of the trigone

- Prostate, urogenital diaphragm, and penis
- IN the female short and opens into the vestibule
