- Worldwide, 33 million women age 15-49 yo (<3%) rely on their partner’s vasectomy for contraception.
- Vasectomy is more common than tubal ligation in only 5 countries (Bhutan, Canada, Great Britain, The Netherlands, and New Zealand).
- In developed countries, vasectomy prevalence is ~ 5%.
- In developing countries, vasectomy prevalence is ~ 2.5%.

- Men having vasectomy are primarily non-Hispanic, white males, married, well educated, relatively affluent and privately insured.
- Underrepresented: Minority, low income, and less educated men.
- Vasectomy is the fourth most common form of contraception used in US, after condoms, oral contraceptives, and tubal ligation.
- Approximately 500,000 vasectomies performed annually in US.
- Over 75% are performed by urologists.
