Nucleous Flashcards
For cells the nucleus is the
Headquarters or the control centre
Deoxyribonucleic acid (genetic material)
Is dna
DNA is
A blueprint that contains all the instructions needed for building the whole body.DNA has genes, that carry all of the instructions for building proteins.
DNA is necessary
For cell reproduction
If a cell loses its nucleus
It will self destruct
The nucleus conforms its
Shape to the cell
Nuclear envelope
Nuclear envelope is. Double layer membrane surrounding the nucleus
Perinuclear space fluid-filled space between the two membranes
Nuclear pores: openings where the two membranes fuse, allowing molecules to pass in and out
Selective permeability:regulates what enters and exits the nucleus
Protects dna : keeps genetic material safe inside the nucleus
Nucleoplasm:jelly- like fluid inside the nucleus where components are suspended
Nucleolus
Nucleolus:one or more small, dark-staining round structures inside the nucleus
Function:the nucleolus is where ribosomes are made
Ribosomes assembly: ribosomal rna and proteins combine to form ribosomes.
Ribosomes:once assembled, ribosomes move to the cytoplasm, where they help make proteins
Chomatin
Chomatin:Dna wrapped around protein called histones, forming a loose network like beads on string.
When a cell is not devided chromatin is scattered throughout the nucleus
In dividing cells chromatin condenses into thick, rod like structures called chromosomes
Chromosomes are formed when chromatin coils and condenses during cells
