Long Bone Flashcards
The diaphysis or shaft
Make up most of the ones length and is composed of compact bone
The diaphysis is covered and protected with
Fiborous connective tissue membrane called the periosteum
Perforating fibres
Hundreds of connective tissue fibers secure the periosteum to the underlying bone.
Epiphyses
Is the ends of long bones that have thin layer of compact bone and spongy bone inside it
Epiphyses tip surface is covered with
Articulate cartilage on outer surface
Epiphyseal line is reminent of the
Epiphyseal plate
Epiphyseal plate
Seen in young growing bone.cause the length wise growth of long bone. When the grown up bone grows it goes away only leaving the line
Endosteum
A delicate connective tissue that covers the long bone shaft
In infants the medullary cavity
Is a storage area for red marrow which produce blood cells then it gradually turns into yellow marrow
Yellow marrow
Which stores adipose(fat) tissue.
Spongy bone is composed of small needle like peices of bone called
Trabeculae
