Superior
Towards the head (cranial) or upper part of the body
Example of superior
The head is superior to the abdomen
Inferior(cuadual)
Away from the head or toward the lower part of the structure or the body.
Anterior(ventral)
Toward or in the front of the body (in front of the body)
Posterior(dorsal)
At the back of the body;behind
Medial
Toward the midline of the body;at the inner side of the body.
Lateral
Away the midline of the body; on the outer side of (the arms are lateral to the chest)
Intermediate
Between a more medial and more lateral structure (the collarbone is intermediate between the breastbone and shoulder)
Proximal
Closer to the point of attachment (or the trunk of the body).
The elbow is proximal to the wrist because it’s closer to the trunk
Distal
Farther from the point of attachment (or the trunk of the body).
The wrist, being farther away from the trunk compared to the elbow, is distal to the elbow.
Superficial(external)
Toward or at the body surface
Deep(internal)
Away from the body surface.more internal
Axial
Head,neck and trunk
Appendicular
Limbs(legs and arms)
