Nervous System Part 2 Flashcards
Nervous system is devided into two principle parts
Central nervous system(cns)
Peripheral nervous system(pns)
Cns
Brain and spinal cord of dorsal body cavity
Integration and control centre
Interperates sensory input and dictates motor output
Pns 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves
Consisted mainly of nerves that extend from brain and spinal cord
Spinal nerves to and from the spinal cord
Cranial nerves to and from the brain
Pns has two main funcitonal divisions
Sensory affrent division
And motor efferent division
One of the decisions of cns are sensory affrent devision
Somatic sensory fibers: convey impulses from skin, skeletal muscles and joints to cns
Visceral sensory fibers : convey impulses from visceral organs to cns
The next pns devision is motor efferent division
Transmits impulses from cns to effector organs
-muscles and glands
Two decisions somatic nervous system
Automatic nervous system
Somatic nervous system
Somatic motor nerve fibers conduct imulses from cns to skeletal muscles
Volentary nervous system
Concious control of skeletal muscles
Autonomic nervous system
Consist of visceral motor nerve fibres
Regulates smooth muscles ,cardiac muscles and glands
Involuntary nervous system
Two functional subdivisions; work in opposition of eachother
Sympathetic
And parasympathetic
Automatic nervous system subdivision
Two functional subdivisions; work in opposition of eachother
Sympathetic
And parasympathetic
Automatic sympathetic
Flight or fight,
A stressful condition
Speed up energy
Parasympathetic
Rest and digest
Peice
Conserve energy
Intrinsic activity
Is when the heart can still beat without the brain
