The hypothalamus is located beneath the thalamus and forms the floor of the diencephalon.
It plays a key role in regulating autonomic functions like body temperature, water balance, and metabolism.

The hypothalamus is involved in regulating drives and emotions.
It is part of the limbic system, influencing feelings of thirst, appetite, sex, pain, and pleasure.
It also regulates the pituitary gland and produces two hormones.
What are the mammillary bodies, and what is their function?
The mammillary bodies are reflex centers located in the hypothalamus, involved in olfaction (sense of smell).
They bulge from the floor of the hypothalamus, posterior to the pituitary gland.
Where is the epithalamus located, and what is its main function?
The epithalamus forms the roof of the third ventricle in the brain.
What are the important parts of the epithalamus?
The pineal gland, which is part of the endocrine system.
The choroid plexus of the third ventricle, which helps in the production of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

The choroid plexus consists of knots of capillaries in the ventricles of the brain.
