Q

Mucous Membranes (Mucosa)

A

Location: Line body cavities that open to the outside (e.g., mouth, nose, lungs, stomach, intestines, urinary tract).
Function: Protect, lubricate, and trap debris/pathogens.

Serous Membranes (Serosa)

A

Location: Line body cavities that do not open to the outside and cover internal organs (e.g., lungs, heart, abdominal organs).
Function: Reduce friction between moving organs.
Secretion: Serous fluid (thin, watery fluid for lubrication).

Q

Synovial Membranes

A

Location: Line joint cavities (e.g., knees, elbows, shoulders).
Function: Reduce friction between bones in movable joints.
Secretion: Synovial fluid (lubricates and nourishes cartilage).
Example: Found in synovial joints like the knee and shoulder.
