Neuro - Tumors HY Flashcards
1
Q
intra-axial
A
(from brain itself)
- Gliomas
- Neuronal tumors
- Metastasis
2
Q
extra-axial
A
(from outside brain)
- meningioma
- shwannoma
- neurofibroma
- sella masses
- metastasis
3
Q
astrocytoma
A
GLIOMA
Pilocytic: pediatric pop, benign, usually cerebellar
Low grade: malignant but good prog, no enhancement
Anaplastic: malignant, poorer prog
Glioblastoma multiforme: WORST prog, most common glioma, likes to cross corpus callosum
4
Q
ependymoma
A
GLIOMA
originates in ventricles, hyrdrocephalus common
5
Q
oligodendroglioma
A
glial tumor arising from oligodendrocytes
slow growing
good prognosis
“fried egg”
HA/seizures
6
Q
meningiomas
A
external to brain
- arise from arachnoidal cap cells
- signs due to compression
- can be removed
SLOW growing, benign
good prognosis
7
Q
sellar masses
A
HA
bitemporal hemianopia
pituitary adenoma
- (2 types: func (secreting) vs nonfunc)
- hormonal sx (prolactinemia, cortisol, GH)
- visual loss
