Muscles of the Thigh Flashcards
what muscles are in the anterior compartment of the thigh?
- iliopsoas
- sartorius
- quadratus femoris - rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vasteus intermedius
- pectineus
muscles of the anterior thigh are innervated by what? what is their arterial supply?
femoral nerve - L2 - L4
arterial supply - femoral artery
where does the iliopsoas pass under?
inguinal ligament
iliopsoas is a combination of what two muscles?
psoas major muscle and iliacus
what are the origins and insertions of iliopsoas?
origin - (psoas major) lumbar vertebrae and iliac fossa of pelvis (iliacus)
inserts - lesser trochanter of femur
what are the actions of ilopsoas?
flexion of thigh at hip
what is the longest muscle in the body?
sartorius
what are the origins and insertions of sartorius?
origins - ASIS
inserts - superior, medial surface of tibia
what are the actions of the sartorius?
hip - flexes, abducts, laterally rotates
knee - flexes
what is the quadratus femoris made up of?
rectus femoris
vastus lateralis
vastus medialis
vastus intermedius
what are the origins and insertions of rectus femoris
origin - AIIS and ilium
inserts - patella via quadriceps femoris tendon
what are the origins and insertions of vastus lateralis
origins - greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
inserts - patella
what are the origins and insertions of vastus medialis?
origin - interotrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera
inserts - patella
what are the origins and insertions of vastus intermedius
origin - anterior and lateral surfaces of femoral shaft
inserts - patella
what is the collective action of the quadratus femoris?
extension of the knee
(rectus femoris also flexes hip)
what are the origins and insertions of the pectineus?
origin - pectineal line of pubis
inserts - pectineal line on posterior femus (inferior to lesser trochanter)
what is the actions of the pectineus?
adducts and flexes hip
